She was born to the late Tom and Emma Curry on June 13, 1936. She attended Della Plain Elementary/Middle School in Glen Raven, NC and Jordan Sellars High School in Burlington, NC.

She married the late Nelson Kelly Jr. In this union they had nine children Nancy "Zip",Channie, Nelson Rockyfellow "Rocky", Ricky Nelson, Tammy "Babe", Thomas "Phimp", Dawn "DeeDee", Tracy "FeeFee" and Bradley "Thump".
Mary Sue had two passions in her life. She was passionate and loved flowers. Her porch was always filled with seasonal plants and flowers. She also had a great passion for children. They always brought a smile to her face.
She loved to spend time in the kitchen cooking meals for her family. The neighborhood children would gather around her table after school and especially for Sunday's dinner. Mary Sue was a loving, strong and courageous woman raising nine children alone in a time when one could say times were hard.
On June 9th 2022, an angel appeared before Mary Sue and whispered in her ears "My Father, your Father has sent me to tell you it's your time". At that moment the body and the spirit separated itself and the angel placed her spirit upon his wings and they soared toward Heaven.
As they traveled the angel continued to speak to Mary Sue saying "In my Father's house are many mansions and there is a special one for you. When you get to your new home your family will be there to greet and welcome you into your new home. Your father and your mother will be there. Your husband will be there. Your five children will be there. Your granddaughter will be there. Your fourteen siblings (nine brothers and five sisters) will be there. When you open the door to your new home there will be a host of angels and children singing praises to our Father. They will minister to you in a divine peace and cuddle you into eternal rest."
Mary Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Kelly Jr., five children Bradley Stevenson Kelly, Dawn Lynette Kelly, Tracey Arnette Kelly, Ricky Nelson Kelly, Rocky Rockyfellow Kelly and a grandchild Kimberly Nicole Kelly.
