She married our father, George, in 1951 at St. Mark's Catholic Church. They had a great life together before he passed in 2000 in Scottsdale, Ariz., their second residence since 1978. Mom and Dad's greatest gift to us was the importance of giving to those less fortunate.
The consummate entertainer and gracious hostess, there were countless gatherings of friends and relatives from near and far. She loved playing card games and charades. In addition to singing, playing the ukulele, and dancing, Mom modeled in local fashion shows, taught elementary school and played golf. She participated in Iowa Falls' community theatre and was also a creative designer. Mom was a very active committee member at St. Mark's, where she taught catechism to high school girls. In Scottsdale, she performed with the award-winning international singing group Sweet Adelines. In later years, she worked on various committees in her retirement community, Pueblo Sereno.
In addition to 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Mom leaves behind us four, as our brother Mark passed away last December. She also leaves behind her best friends, Pat and Jack Whitesell, and her nieces and nephews, including Gene's son, Patrick, and the Johnson children (Ginny's kids): Tom, Sara, Bruce and Teresa.
The internment of her ashes - along with Dad and Mark's - will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Ackley in late spring of 2022, when we will have a celebration of life. Thank you for your support during this difficult time. Please consider a donation in her name to Habitat for Humanity. Sincerely, Mary, Joe, Tim, and Anne.
