Edsel is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lou Penny, the love of his life; daughter Carolyn (Danny) of Smithfield, North Carolina; grandson Brian Stephenson of Charlotte, North Carolina; great grandsons Noah, Luke and Liam Stephenson of Mooresville, North Carolina; sister- in- Law, Hazel Lee of Garner, North Carolina; and nieces and nephews, John Sullivan, Mary Herrin, Cathy Godwin, Timmy Penny, Danny Lee and Angela Hensley.

Born February 21, 1928 to Victor and Lily Penny, he was the baby brother of Lucille, Graham and Lemay, and the last to fly home.

He was a gifted musician with a beautiful tenor voice. We imagine he is experiencing a glorious reunion with the pickers and singers who preceded him into heaven. He loved his wife all of his life and cared for her with all of his heart and the last of his strength. He was the best daddy to his only child, Carolyn. His pride and greatest joy were his grandson Brian and his three great grandsons Noah, Luke and Liam. They know him only as "Kingfish".

The only thing he may have loved more than us was his red pick-up truck, evidenced by the fact that it still looks like it just rolled out of the showroom. It is not for sale.

Many thanks to his caregivers, Hailey Wood and Pam Kirby, who helped make his last years and days bearable. Also, thanks to the many kind neighbors, especially Linda, Bill and Michelle. We are grateful to the pastor and good people of Providence Presbyterian Church who have been faithful to pray, visit and love on mom and dad.

There are so many people who have walked this journey with us-you know who you are. We are so grateful to call you friends, and your name is written on our hearts forever
