Phyllis graduated from Topeka High School in 1942. She worked for Adam Brothers Bindery in Topeka, then met the love of her life and married Albert Sieve. She worked alongside her husband on the family dairy farm; while raising their 11 children. Later, she was an interior designer and sold product for Melalluca. She was a nurse's aide at Winchester Hospital and was a cook and housekeeper at Linwood Retirement Center in Valley Falls. Phyllis also sold Home Interiors and Avon.
She was a member of the Valley Falls community for over 78 years. She was a member of the St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Altar Society, V.F.W. Post 3084 Auxiliary and Prairie Hall Club all in Valley Falls. Phyllis enjoyed baking and was well-known for her amazing cinnamon rolls.
She married Albert Sieve on September 1, 1943 in Valley Falls, KS; he preceded her in death on January 23, 2000. She married Jerry Cowan on May 1, 2004 in Valley Falls, KS; he preceded her in death on February 13, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Geraldine Offergeld; 2 children, Ann O'Shea and Mike Sieve; 2 sisters, Dorothy Miller and Norma Miller and 2 sons-in-law, Tom O'Shea and Ron Herring.
Survivors include 9 children, brother, daughter-in-law, and 150+ grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2022 at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022 with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at the church. Phyllis will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls.
