Robert L. Thrash, Sr. of Bemidji, MN died on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. He was 84 years old. Robert Lee Thrash, Sr. was born in Alberta, Alabama to Eddie and Susie Thrash on April 21, 1938. He grew up in Prichard, Alabama where he graduated in the class of 1958 from Mattie T. Blount High School. Robert completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama in 1965 and he began his career with the United States Forest Service.

On August 12, 1967, Robert was united in marriage to Mary Grant in Mt. Vernon, Alabama. During this time, he also studied at the University of Louisville, Louisville, KY earning a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling. He continued working for the USFS for the Shawnee National Forest in Golconda, IL. until his eventual transfer to the Chippewa National Forest in Cass Lake, MN in 1974. He retired while at the Chippewa in 1995 after a 30 year career with the USFS.

Robert was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, where he served on the Elder Board for many years. He was also a member of Gideons International and organized the Gideon's Jail Ministry Program and served as director until 2021. He has also served as Director of Continental Mission, USA and Board member of Continental Mission, Canada. Robert was currently serving as Board member for Without Reservation Ministries. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, his membership in the Paul Bunyan Vintage Auto Club and was a lifelong Dodgers Fan.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Thrash; his devoted son, Robert Thrash, Jr.; (Fiancée, Jennifer Nelson) Fort Myers, FL. Sisters: Millie Fritz, Mobile, AL; Viola Ransford, Memphis, TN; Deloris Witherspoon, Mobile, AL. and his devoted nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie, and Susie Thrash; brother, J D Thrash; and sister, Lucy Smith.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the First Baptist Church, Bemidji, MN. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Bemidji.
