Larry left his earthly body and entered his eternal heavenly home on June 6, 2022, at the age of 86. He was born on May 26, 1936, to W. B. "Bart" Abbott and Johnnie Ladelle Chilcoat Abbott in Truscott, Texas. They moved to San Angelo when Larry was a young boy.

Larry attended schools in San Angelo where he played football and basketball for the Central Bobcats. He later served in the U. S. Army where he was stationed in Panama from 1954-1956 and earned his GED. He then continued his service in the Army Reserves for several years.

Larry was married to Rita Beth McCutchen, the love of his life, on May 11, 1957. They resided in San Angelo but moved to Abilene for almost 5 years before returning to San Angelo. After 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He was a faithful member of Lake View United Methodist Church.

After returning home from the Army, Larry worked with his dad at the 7-Eleven store on North Chadbourne, then later joined his dad and brother, Lynn, at Abbott and Sons Grocery. Following the grocery business, he worked for Ace Builders Lumber Company, then began a 30-year career in the insurance industry. During that time, he worked for Floyd West and Company, later joining Russell, McDonald, and Duncan which then became Russell, Duncan, and Abbott Insurance. Larry finished his insurance career at Trimble-Batjer Insurance Associates.

Larry was very involved with the community as well as his children. He volunteered for the Boy Scouts, West Texas Boys Ranch, and the Lions Club. He loved to participate in and watch most sports. He spent hours driving to watch his children and grandchildren in football, basketball, track, tennis, baseball, softball, golf, volleyball, and rodeo as well as choir and music concerts. He had a lifelong love of fishing. Growing up, he fished with his dad at Lake Nasworthy, and his mom always cooked the catch of the day. He also took numerous trips with his many fishing buddies to the Rio Grande River, as well as Mexico, Lake Ivey, and Lake Amistad.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Bart and Ladelle Abbott, sister Billye Meryl Abbott, brothers Lynn Abbott and Don Abbott, and sisters-in-law Joyce Abbott, Joyce McCutchen, and JoAnn McCutchen.

Survivors include his wife, Rita, and their children: Kyle Abbott, Tobin Abbott (Tanya), Amy Moore (Eddie) and Sterling Abbott (Susan); grandchildren Tina Kolster (Nick), Tim Abbott (Kayton), Marlayna Schoenfield (Josh), Jay Moore (Kayla), Shea Abbott (Landry), and Seth Abbott (Haily); great-grandchildren Mason and Cooper Kolster, Rylee and Steely Abbott, Maddie, Kenzie, Landry, and Marly Schoenfield, Jaxon, Kasen, and Maggie Moore, Rhys and Amos Abbott, and Slayde Abbott, plus 2 more arriving later in 2022; sister Patsy Porter; sisters-in-law Jean Abbott and Dolly Abbott; as well as his McCutchen in-laws Marlon, Harold and Gina, Jerry and Bette, Keith and Vicky, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
