John was an interesting man, at least to his family and friends. He did many things to make a living through the hard times. He worked on ranches, road jobs, in the oil fields, ran heavy equipment and was a carpenter. "Learn as many things as you can, that way you'll always be able to find a job", he told his sons. When WWI began, he gladly served his country. He loved to hunt, fish and camp out. His youngest son, James, remembers the many fun hunting and fishing trips he and his Dad had together, while growing up in Texas and New Mexico. My husband James, tells me many funny things that happened during his lifetime with his Dad.
John was first married to Cecile Lee Price, Feb. 27 1920. They had two sons, Kenneth and Gaylen. Later, they were divorced and he married Aileene Barton of Dover, AR. She was raised next to the Gravel Hill Cemetery, where John was laid to rest. They had Earlene, James E., Cindy and Cathy.
I was fortunate enough to meet my father-in-law, John, a few days before his 88th birthday, Feb. 7 1986. He passed away Feb. 16 1986, a few days after we returned home to New Mexico. I would love to have gotten better acquainted with him.
