He was born May 18, 1918, in Avery County to the late Mary Conley Young. He joined the US Marine Corps to serve in World War II as a sergeant in aviation, serving with notables such as "Pappy" Boyington's infamous squadron. Following the military his career was in the food and beverage business throughout the Southeast, including Asheville and surrounding areas.
He is survived by his two sons, George Young and his wife, Susan, and their children, Jennifer and Daniel, of Louisburg, NC, and J.C. Young, Jr. of Sunset Beach, NC; and three caring sisters, Mursetis, Dorothy and Retta.
