Fulton—Dr. Dan Moore passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, March 22, 2024. He was born on July 9, 1953 in Tupelo to the late Clarence Gaston Moore and Willa Jean Gillentine Moore. Growing up in Itawamba County, Danny graduated from IAHS, Class of 1973. He married Marilyn Blaylock in 1978.


After earning his MD from the University of Mississippi, he began private practice in 1981 at Amory Internal Medicine along with Dr. Bill Rogers and Dr. Roger Ratliff. Their receptionist, Shellie Moffett, later became his nurse and was a faithful employee and friend. He left private practice and joined the Amory and Aberdeen hospital systems. Dr. Moore was an Internal Medicine physician. He was a pioneer in the hospitalist program at Gilmore Hospital where he worked in that capacity until his retirement in 2023.


A member of Meadowood Baptist Church, Dr. Moore was loved and well respected by his peers and his patients who considered him a kind and gentle soul. Throughout his career, he amassed thousands of patients that he diligently cared for. He was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed cooking for his family.


Funeral services for Dr. Moore will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Meadowood Baptist Church with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Private burial will be in the Keyes Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at the church. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.


His is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marilyn Moore; son, Sam Moore; daughter, Mary Shields (Dustin); grandsons, Easton Shields, and John Daniel Moore; granddaughter, Avery Shields; sister, Brenda Franklin (Jerry) and brother, Steve Moore (Selina).


He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaston and Willa Jean Moore; and a brother, Mitchell Moore.


Pallbearers will be Ben Moore, John Daniel Moore, Stacy Franklin, Brady Franklin, Hunter Franklin, and Easton Shields. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Bill Rogers, Dr. Stephen Hathcock, David Brown, James Earl Waddle, Tim Gillentine, and Shellie Moffett
