Gary was the son of Evelyn Wade Duncan and Lewis Truman Duncan, born July 20, 1940 in Phoenix, Arizona. Gary and his older sister, Doris, grew up in the small town of Peoria, Arizona where both their parents had also lived while growing up. Peoria was a small town with a friendly small town feeling and it was a great place to grow up. Gary enjoyed all his friends and various activities. Gary attended school at Peoria Elementary School and Peoria High School, graduating from high school in 1958. Many family vacations were spent in beautiful Oak Creek Canyon, North of Sedona, Arizona where the pine trees, camp grounds, Oak Creek, cool summer temperatures, friends, trout fishing, and slide rock were so much fun. Gary spent many enjoyable hours fishing Oak Creek and knew the creek and particular fishing holes well. Gary married Judy Rhodes in 1959 and together they raised a family of two daughters and one son. After working for a crop dusting service for several years, Gary joined the Arizona Air National Guard, headquartered in Phoenix, in 1961 and became a member of The Phoenix Air Guard Copperheads. During Gary's 34 year career with the Guard as a loadmaster and boom operator, he took many trips overseas , including Germany, his favorite place, where he enjoyed friends, good food, and beer. Gary made many lifelong friends both in the United States and abroad. Gary, with his friendly personality, sincere, knowledgeable, engaging self, was a highly regarded friend to many people and he treasured those friendships. Gary, Judy, and family thoroughly enjoyed their summer home near Flagstaff, Arizona where the temperatures were much cooler, projects never ended, and the birds and squirrels enjoyed treats provided by Gary and the kids.
