From the history of Griffin Baptist Church, Pickens Co., SC, during the year of 1880, G. M. Simmons was ordained to the ministry as the first from Griffin Church. From the records at Antioch Baptist Church, Enoree, S.C., he joined the Church by letter on January 4, 1898. On August 24, 1907 "Bro G. M. Simmons was called to the chair, read a chapter and led in prayer."
