They then settled permanently in Winston-Salem, where Fred worked as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Wake Forest University. They were married for 45 years until his death in 2007.

In addition to supporting her husband's career and raising a family, Anne was involved with many local organizations. She also volunteered with the Medical Center Guild of Wake Forest Baptist Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed hosting gatherings at her home, especially for her local play reading group.

She was a dedicated member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church for more than 50 years. In 1997, she completed the program of Theological Education by the Capital Extension Education for Ministry as provided and administered by the School of Theology of the University of the South (Sewanee).

Anne will be remembered for her kind and gentle manner, her warm hugs, her banana bread, and her love for her family. She loved to garden and enjoyed sharing flowers with her many friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother, C. Rufus Walters Jr. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Walters Miyake (Northrup "Notch") of Rochester, NY and her children, Frederick Richards III (Suzanne) of Washington, DC; Laura Anne Craig (Ralph) of Elkin, NC; Charles Patrick Richards, M.D. (Juliana) of Winston-Salem, NC; and six grandchildren.

The family is most grateful to the caregivers with Live Long Well Care who took such good care of Anne, especially over the past two years.
