Irene Estelle Crane Barnes, 95, of Waynesboro passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born February 22, 1927 in Edgerton, Va she was a daughter of the late Wentworth Bagley and Pattie Jane Pittard Crane.
Irene was a graduate of Lawrenceville High School and Smithdeal Massey Business School. She worked as a licensed insurance agent and secretary for H. Gray Harvey Insurance Agency. Irene was a member of Edgerton United Methodist Church and Charlotte C.H. United Methodist Church. She greatly enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafting, gardening, playing golf, cooking and baking. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Everette Barnes; and brothers, W. B., Tom, Pokey, and Pecky Crane.
Survivors include her three children, Bryant Barnes and wife, Anne of Waynesboro, Sherry Barnes and husband, John Gibney of Hayesville, NC, and Donnie Barnes and wife, Myrna of Dolphin, VA; grandson, Jeremy Gibney of Rochester, NY; two brothers, Eddie G. Crane of Edgerton, VA, and Howard Crane of Waynesboro; sister, Patsy Betz of Waynesboro; brother-in-law, Albert Barnes of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Wilhelmina Barnes of Dolphin, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Main Street United Methodist Church, 601 W. Main St., Waynesboro with Rev. Linda Kusse-Wolfe officiating. An inurnment will held at a later date at Edgerton Memorial Cemetery, Lawrenceville, VA.
