Mr. Arthur Fredrick "Fred" Whaples, Jr, of St. Albans and formerly of Nitro, born May 27, 1941, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 29, 2022, while in the care of Hospice. Fred was a beloved and devoted husband of 53 years, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a devout Christian, Teacher, mentor, coach of 41 years of service as a teacher and friend to all.
He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur Fredrick Whaples, Sr and Melva A. Whaples of Nitro, WV.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan G. Whaples "Sugar Bear", son Shannon (Sandy) of Georgia, Freddie (Cathi) of NC, Brandon (Patti) of Nitro, WV. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by thousands of Poca and WVU students that he cherished dearly in his heart.
A tribute to the life of Fred will be 11:00 AM Thursday June 2, 2022, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mitchell Burch officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.
