Mrs. John C. Truman Dies; Services to Be Held Tomorrow
Mrs. John C. Truman, 69, 830 West Fourth, El Dorado, Kansas, died here yesterday morning following a long illness. She was the widow of John C. Truman, who operated a contracting firm here for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Kirby Funeral Home with Dr. O. Ray Cook, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Mrs. Truman was born Nov. 4, 1886, in Norwalk, Ohio, and married Mr. Truman there on Sept 25, 1906. She had lived in El Dorado for 38 years and was a member of the Methodist church. Mr. Truman preceded her in death in 1953.
Mrs Truman was a woman of rare character and ability. As the mother of eight daughters, she maintained a pleasant and well-ordered home which was always a place of comfort and gayety. She was a strong help-meet to her husband, the late J. C. Truman. During the early days of his pipeline contracting career, she found time to help in his office, and her supervision of the business books aided considerably in the smooth operation of the firm's affairs. Mrs. Truman had made countless friends during her long residence in this community - friends who are grieved because her attractive personality will now be missing.
Surviving are eight daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Moore, 502 South High, Mrs. Thelma Honn, 1121 West Second, Mrs. Locke, 125 North Residence, Mrs. Dorothy Shaw, 529 North Alleghany, Mrs. Deloris Marcum, 1624 Webb, Mrs. Peggy Burner, 1336 Crescent Dr., Mrs. Ernestine Hart, of El Dorado, and Mrs. Joanne Mason, Wichita; three sisters, Mrs Marie Reynolds, Eureka, and Mrs. Irene Tracy and Mrs. Viola Laws, both of Bridgeport, Ill.; two brothers, Carl Ernst, Robinson, Ill., and Ray Ernst, St. Francisville, Ill. There are 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The casket will not be opened at the service but friends may call at the funeral home until 2 p.m. tomorrow.
