Injuries sustained when he was caught beneath a fall of slate resulted in the death of John Koons, Sr., 53, of Webster, late yesterday afternoon in the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital.
The victim is reported to have suffered severe internal injuries at the mine of the Victoria Coal Company at Pricedale about 2:15 pm yesterday. He died at 4:30 pm at the hospital where he was removed by ambulance. James Little of Donora, who was working with Koons at the time, escaped injury, it was said.
Koons, who resided at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary Curran at Webster, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Brown Koons, and the following children, Russell, Sherman, Bonna, Shirley and Marvin, at home, John Kiins Jr., Webster, Mrs. William Cominskay, Charleroi, Mrs. Curan and five grandchildren.
Friends are being received at the Curan home in Webster, where funeral services will be held Monday, March 29, at 2 o'clock, with Rev. George Guest officiating. Interment in the Monongahela cemetery.
