Born in Freeport, New York on August 11, 1951, he was a son of Mary Jean (Lillibridge) Dixon of Sewickley, Pennsylvania and the late Howard Gist Dixon, Jr. He resided in Attleboro for the past 14 months after having resided in the greater Pittsburgh area for more than 35 years.
He grew up in New York State and in earlier years, the Dixon family resided in Hawaii and Thailand as Mr. Dixon's father was an international civil engineer.
Years ago Mr. Dixon was employed as an assembler for the Easter Seals and more recently was employed as an assembler of pallets for the Ridgeway Company.
In 1972, Mr. Dixon was a medal winner in the swimming category of the National Special Olympics.
He will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a man with a big heart who loved unconditionally and was known for his warm hugs and kisses and hearty handshakes.
Mr. Dixon was an ardent collector of model cars, airplanes, buses and tractor trailer trucks. Recently, he enjoyed collecting business cards and always wanted to be given two.
An ardent sports enthusiast, he was originally a Pittsburg Steelers fan but become an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins and the Boston Celtics.
He enjoyed the time spent at the Mansfield Adult Day Center.
In addition to his mother, he leaves siblings, Donna Moore and David Dixon and their families, and many other treasured family members.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Celebration of His Life Service on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Murray Unitarian Universalist Church, 505 North Main Street – Route 152, Attleboro.
Burial will be in the Murray Unitarian Universalist Church Memorial Garden.
