Esther Sophia Morford, a longtime Philomath resident, died Wednesday, June 17, in Southfield Mich., where she had lived sine last December. She was 82. She was born in Corvallis to Julius R. and Pearl A. (Persinger) Spees. She married Oren E. Morford on June 9, 1939 and lived in the Philomath area since 1945. She moved in December 1997 to Southfield, Mich., where she lived with her daughters. She was a lifelong member of the College United Methodist Church of Philomath, where she taught children's classes and served on various committees and as treasurer. She belonged to the United Methodist Women's Group and was active in the Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oren E. Morford, in April 1994. Survivors include sons Thomas O Morford of Philomath, David L. Morford of Toledo, John E. Morford of Philomath and Donald L. Morford of Siletz; daughters Anna M. Morford and Elizabeth Morford, both of Southfield, Mich; brothers Ernest Spees of Metolius and Earl Spees of Philomath; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Committal services held at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Albany, Oregon.
