He was born on Dec. 6, 1917, in Bennett's Corners, N.Y., the son of M. Homer and Ida Richmond Boylan.
Ray lived most of his life in the Munnsville area, and was educated in the Munnsville Schools.
He had worked as a crane operator for Local 545 Operating Engineers Union, retiring in 1980 after thirty years.
He had also owned and operated a dairy farm on West Hill Road in Stockbridge, was a former Police Chief of Sherrill, and had been a Greyhound Bus driver.
Ray was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 421 of Oneida, a former member of the Oneida Elks Lodge No. 767, an honorary member of the Munnsville American Legion Post 54, and a past member of the Peterboro Conservation Club.
He enjoyed golf, shuffleboard and hunting, especially deer hunting.
Ray first married Ruth M. Pafka on July 8, 1939, in Munnsville. Ruth died on Oct. 29, 1967.
He later married Olive Smith Gwynn on Oct. 19, 1968 in Kerhonkson, N.Y.
Surviving besides his wife, Olive, are a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Harry Millar of Temple, Ga.; three step-sons and step-daughters-in-law, Bradley and Sharon Gwynn of Manlius, Randy and Sherry Gwynn of Osceola, Ind., and Ronald and Peggye Gwynn of Tecumseh, Okla.; a brother, Lyle Boylan of Munnsville; a sister-in-law, Mary Huckins of Glendale, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ray was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Dietz; a grandson, Scott Dietz; a brother, Wesley Boylan; and a sister, Dorothy Hatch.
