Son of Eugene Memmon and Eula Mae Carter Funderburk. He served in the U.S. Navy at the end of WW II and earned a WW II Victory Medal. He married Martha Blume of Orangeburg in 1950 and graduated from Newberry College in 1951. He was dedicated to working with young people as a teacher, coach and mentor, beginning in South Carolina where he developed the first football program ever in the town of Walterboro. In the mid-1950s, he moved his family to Marietta where he taught and coached football, baseball and tennis in Fulton County and Marietta schools for nearly 40 years. He studied for a Masters in Education at the Universities of South Carolina and Georgia, and completed his MA.Ed degree from Atlanta University. He also earned a Six Year Specialist Degree in School Social Work. Post-retirement, he taught driver education at Marietta Community School. He was a Life Deacon in Marietta First Baptist Church where he was active as a Boy Scouts Leader and with Seniors programs. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxilliary and the Optimist Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, John Wacasey; and brothers-and sisters-in-law, Marion and Ann Blume and Charles and Elsie Blume. Surviving are his wife, Martha; son, Memmon and wife, Susan; daughter, Susan Wacasey; grandson, Curt Wacasey and wife, Danielle; and great-grandchildren, Trey, Jackson, and Carter, and sister, Aletha Funderburk.
