Mr. James Thomas "J.T." Beverly, 81, of 826 Winona Avenue in Waycross, died Wednesday night at Baptist Village Nursing Facility in Waycross following a long illness.

He was born in Argyle, Clinch County, Georgia but attended Waycross-Ware County public schools and resided here almost his entire life. His parents were Forest J. "Jep" and Margaret Inez (Robinson) Beverly.

He was employed for several years with the Atlanta Gas Light Company before being hired, just before World War II, as a trainman with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad. He served during the war as a machinist's mate 3rd class in the U.S. Navy.

After the war, he returned to work with the railroad, continuing his service with the Seaboard and CSX railroad companies and retiring 37 years later as a conductor.

During his many active years of retirement, he was a member of the Silverhead Motor Home Camping Club and traveled all of the United States. He was also very interested in genealogy and read extensively about the history and background of his family.

He was a member of the Winona Park United Methodist Church, the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, and the Retired Engineers,Conductors and Crafts breakfast club.

The survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lollie Mae (Joyner) Beverly, of Waycross; three daughters, Mrs. J.L. Clark

(Margaret Annette) of Marianna, Florida and Mrs. Phillip Cribb (Phyllis Angelyn) and Mrs. John D, Gibson (Carolyn) both of Waycross; a brother the Reverend F.J. Beverly Jr., Waycross; five sisters, Sarah (Beverly) Mincey, Virginia (Beverly) Roberson, Betty Jo (Beverly) Gibbs and Barbara (Beverly) Boyett, all of Waycross and Nell (Beverly) Clark of Blackshear; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Music Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 o'clock at the funeral home.

The grandchildren are: John Christopher Clark, Jay Patrick Clark, Jill (Clark) Shuler, Penny Annette (Clark) Allhallaseh, Thomas Gibson, Amanda Gibson, Benjamin Gibson, Dana (Cribb) Dixon.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Waycross, Ware County, Georgia.
