Missouri Valley - Funeral services for George H. Darrington, 87, retired farmer and long-time Boomer township official who died Saturday night at a Council Bluffs hospital, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cutler Chapel, Council Bluffs, and 3:15 p.m. at Boomer cemetery. The Rev. Earl Josten, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate.
Mr. Darrington, who once was on the Board of Supervisors of Pottawattamie County, was the secretary of the Boomer School Board and a member for 50 years. He also was a 50-year-member of the Pottawattamie County Mutual Insurance Association.
A native of Utah, he came to this area as a child and was raised in a log cabin which still stands in Boomer Township. He attended Grinnell College.
Mr. Darrington was a member of the First Methodist Church and taught Sunday school classes for many years.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Meda Roberts Darrington; five sons, Roy of Webster, N.D., Elmer of Colorado Springs, Clarence of Omaha, Everett of Crete, Neb., and Arnold of Underwood; two daughters, Mrs. W.B. (Eva) Rule of Basking Ridge, N.J., and Miss Mabel Darrington of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Charles L. Thomas of Council Bluffs and Mrs. William Powell of Gregory, S.D.; two brothers, Herbert and Nathan of Council Buffs; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
