Emory L. Archer, recently discharged from the Navy, and a former Cheyenne youth, and Miss Addie Bell Shelton will be married at the Nazarene Church in Sayre, at 7:30 P. M., September 28 in a candle light ceremony.

Both of the young people are seniors in the high school and will continue their studies in the Sayre school.

Archer, file in the district court in and and Beckham County, State of Oklahoma, on the 5th day of December, 1946, a petition and application praying the Court to confer upon him, the said Emory Lawrence Archer, Jr., a minor, the rights of majority concerning contracts, and empowering him, the said Emory Lawrence Archer, Jr., to transact business in general with the same effect as if done by a person above the age of majority.

E. L. Archer, Jr., was born August 1, 1927, at Moorewood, He started to school at Three Corner, Oklahoma and in 1935 entered the Cheyenne school were he finished the Junior year. In 1944 he entered the Navy and was discharged in August of 1946. He was lected All-Around Boy of Cheyenne in his Jr. year and received a trip to Sulphur. He likes sports, hunting fishing, flying, and being boss of his home. He dislikes jive music and English. He has been active in baseball and basketball. He was married Sept. 28, 1946 and plans to work out an A and E license at the airport as soon as he is our(sic) of school.

No injury was reported in an auto accident one mile south of Sayre about 4 p.m. today, Lloyd Francisco, highway patrolman said today.

Emory Lawrence Archer jr., Sayre, was driving a 1947 Hudson sedan and had parked on the right hand side of the highway. He made a left turn into the path of a 1949 Mercury sedan driven by Carol Smith Prather eiling,(sic) Oklahoma.

Damage to the Hudson was estimated at $150 and for the Mercury was estimated about $300, the patrolman said.

Emory Lawrence Archer, Jr. was born August 1st, 1927 near the Three Corners community in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma to Vida Mae (Leddy) and Emory Lawrence Archer, Sr. He passed away Tuesday, January 10th, 2023 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 95 years, 5 months and 9 days.

Emory, known by most as "E.L.", grew up attending schools at Three Corners, Red Star, Strong City, and Cheyenne until the 10th grade when he joined the United States Navy at the end of World War II. After his discharge he returned to Sayre where he completed his junior and senior years graduating in 1947. It was during his senior year that he was married to Addie Belle (Shelton) in Sayre, Oklahoma on September 28th, 1946. They made their home in Sayre where they raised their family except for a short period of time spent in Colorado. E.L. furthered his education at Sayre Junior College and delivered furniture in the western Oklahoma area. He later found employment with the United States Postal service where he carried mail before starting his career in insurance. E.L. served as an agent and a district manager for Modern Woodman of America Fraternal Organization. He remained with Modern Woodman Insurance Company for the better part of 12 years exclusively until branching out and serving as a broker for other agencies. E.L. continued in the industry even after Addie passed away in 2013, but evolved to group and cancer policies. E.L. later married Faye (Youngblood) in Wheeler, Texas on October 14th, 2016 and they made their home in Elk City. He later retired and spent his time tending to his rental properties. He enjoyed gardening, raising fruit, fishing, hunting, and raising cattle. E.L. could most times be seen around town and always had a kind word for everyone he came in contact with.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Addie Belle; son-in-law, James Bob Skaggs; 1 grandson, Loren Todd Skaggs; 1 infant brother, Charles Archer; and 3 sisters, Virginia Archer, Lavona Archer, and Freda Coffey.

E.L. is survived by his wife, Faye, of the home; 1 daughter, Larinda Skaggs, Edmond, OK; 5 sons, Emory Archer and wife, Carol, Johnstown, CO, Rod Archer, Sayre, OK, Dwight Archer, Cooper, TX, Bruce Archer and wife, Carol, Allison, TX, and Keith Archer and wife, Cathy, Golden, CO; 16 grandchildren, Greg, Jon, Ryan, Scott, Kevin, Rodney, Jennifer, Casey, Jordan, Jacob, Josh, Chelsea, Leslie, Grant, Aaron, and Laura; 23 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; half brother, Danny Marshall and wife, Cindy, Sayre, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 16th, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sayre First Christian Church officiated by Dennis Knight. Burial will follow at Lone Oak Cemetery under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West. Condolences can be made online at www.classicfunerals.com
