GLADYS MASTERS

BAKERSVILLE - Gladys Brewer Masters, 96, of Bee Branch Road, died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Asbury Center in Johnson City, Tenn. She was born July 10, 1905, in Avery County to the late Roby Brewer and Hannah Sheppard Brewer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Burnie Masters; sons, Jack and Lloyd Masters; daughter, Mary Lou Bartley; grandson, David Michael Bartley; sisters, Hazel B. Conley and Haskell B. Johnson; and brothers, Wesley, Ralph, Elbert, Howard, and Clinton Brewer. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Church of the Brethren. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Lee and Lynn Taylor of Johnson City, Tenn., Billie Jo and Ernie Cross of Johnson City, Tenn., and Shelia and Bob Bullis of Bakersville; son, Charles B. Masters Jr. and wife, Teresa, of Macon, Ga.; son-in-law, J.D. Bartley of Mt. Airy; brother-in-law, Fred Masters and wife, Bertie, of Bakersville and Mooresville; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and sisters, Ella Reynolds of Marion and Mildred Gilley of Newdale. The funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Frank Herbert officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the services and at other times will be at the home of Shelia and Bob Bullis on Bee Branch. The graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Masters Cemetery on Bee Branch. Memorials may be made to Masters Cemetery, c/o Shelia Bullis, 628 Bee Branch Road, Bakersville, NC 28705.
