Lois Jones Torrice, 85, of Fredericksburg passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital.

Mrs. Torrice was a longstanding member of Fredericksburg Seventh-day Adventist Church, since its inception. She taught Sabbath school for years.

She grew up on Charles Street in Fredericksburg. Her family owned Jones Grocery Store on William Street. She loved to travel and was lucky to have the opportunity to travel to several countries in her lifetime. As she aged, her biggest hobby was collecting treasures around town. Her collection was so large, The Free Lance-Star did an article about her.

Survivors include her children, Tui Fundora, John A. Torrice III and Terri Pishdad; her sister, Juanita Byrd; her five grandchildren, John A. Torrice IV, Cristi L. Torrice, Darian Torrice, Daniel Pishdad and Nicholas Pishdad; and her five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Torrice Jr.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Fredericksburg Seventh-day Adventist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Lacey, Joseph Torrice, Gary Torrice, Johnny Torrice, Daniel Pishdad and Van Hodges.

Memorials may be made to Fredericksburg Seventh-day Adventist Church, 6052 Plank Road, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407.
