David C Dalton, born 1840 in TN., married Susan Elizabeth Mickle, in Franklin Co. AR. in 1868. Susan was born to Dorothy Gates Putnam and George W. Mickle In 1850. To David and Susan's marriage was born David Whitman Dalton, James H. Dalton, Sarah Ellen Dalton and Mary Virginia Dalton. David C. Dalton was a scout for wagon trains originating out of Fort Smith, AR. The family lived between Barling and Charleston. After the Civil War,old wounds and antagonisms caused by the late great unpleasantness, were a part of the lives of those in western AR. David C. Dalton was a victim of that strife. He was waylaide by "bushwhackers" one evening while riding his horse. His body was never found. His father was John B. Dalton
