Richard A. Kendall, Sr. (Age 71) of Toddville, MD, passed away on April 6, 2021 from complications related to the COVID-19 virus.
Richard was born in Washington, DC on June 25,1949 to Dorothy Pauline and Arthur Minor Kendall. After graduating from high school in Takoma Park, MD in 1967, Richard joined the US Air Force Reserves as an Aircraft Propeller Repairman from 1968 to 1970. He received his airman training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. Richard then went on to serve as a police officer in his hometown of Takoma Park, MD from 1972 to 2000, retiring after 28 years with the Takoma Park Police Department (TPPD). Following his retirement from TPPD, Richard spent time as a freelance writer for the Cambridge, MD Daily Banner newspaper. He enjoyed writing stories about people, places, and events in and around Dorchester County, MD, his hometown for the last 21 years. Richard then went on to work for Glenn P. Ruark Construction and then the Maryland Department of Agriculture-Weights and Measures until he retired in 2018.
In retirement, Richard enjoyed all things related to the Chesapeake Bay, boating, exploring small islands, local wildlife, and working on his property which overlooked the bay. He loved music, old cars, boats, art, history and animals. Richard also loved spending every moment with his wife Stephanie, and also helping Steph run her business called Kendall's Creations Crystals, Rocks, and Gems.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy Pauline Berwick and Arthur Minor Kendall.
Richard is survived by his wife Stephanie Kendall whom he met in 1994 and five children: Richard Kendall Jr. and wife Lisa; Robert Kendall and fiancé Holly Thomas; Ray Lucas; Frank Lucas; and Jennifer (Kendall) Graham and husband Matt. He is also survived by his brothers: Don Payne and Dave Payne; grandchildren Emily (Kendall) Smith and husband PJ; Tyler Kendall; Shane Kendall; Leela Kendall, and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his dog Miles.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 at American Legion Post 91 in Cambridge, MD.
