John, 97 years of age and a resident of Provencal, passed away on May 9, 2022. He was born on August 19, 1924 to James Edmond Edwards and Anner Isadore Lee Edwards in Kisatchie, LA. John proudly served in US Army and was a veteran of 3 wars. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He was always considerate of others, including his family, neighbors and friends, and he would give even if it meant he did without. He often said if you left his house hungry it was your own fault. John had a great sense of humor and was always accepting to hearing the latest joke or tell his own. John loved sharing stories of his life experiences including that of his childhood through his golden years. He loved and was respectful of the outdoors, and he was an avid hunter and fisher. In his younger years he enjoyed tap dancing. He enjoyed playing checkers, chess and cards with family and friends. You could always tell when he was in a good mood, he whistled a lot. Family was the most important treasure on earth and he will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and a proud Paw-Paw to his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Torina Elaine Craft Edwards; his daughters, Arlene Edwards Champagne, Cynthia JoAnn Edwards Martin and her husband Jimmy, and Pamela Danette Edwards Ford; a son, John Sidney Edwards, Jr.; his grandchildren, Matthew Louis Champagne, Clifford Dewayne Edwards, Amanda Edwards Zapata, Anthony Jo Edwards, Jimmy Dewayne Martin, Jr., Angela Renee Martin Jeane, Timothy Wayne Martin, Joseph Roman Martin, Shawn Huey Martin, Kimberly Elaine Ford Chatfield, Sarah Arlene Ford Holmes, Aaron Michael Ford, Paige DaLee Edwards; 2 step grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, and 5 step great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Kent Edwards and a grandson, Jessie Wayne Edwards; sisters, Tishie Edwards Bolton and Eunice Edwards Boles; and a brother, Clifford Dwayne Edwards

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Matthew Champagne, Anthony Edwards, Joseph Martin, Shawn Martin, Timothy Martin, Jason Jeane, and Charles Boles.
