Charles J. Windus, Sr. "Chuck", age 76, died Monday, May 9, 2022 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Green Bay.

He was born September 10, 1945 in Manitowoc, son of the late Helen and Erwin Windus. Chuck went to Brother School in Mount Calvary and later graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1964. From 1965 to 1967, he served in Vietnam with the United States Army. After returning from Vietnam, Chuck attended LTC.

On October 1, 1977 he married Barbara Junk.

He was employed at Kelvinator, was a Manitowoc Bridge Tender, and retired from Manitowoc Transit Systems. Chuck had many special interests. He has been a bartender in Manitowoc for many years. He could always tell a story or had a wise crack. Chuck had also been a very special "Santa's Helper" for many years, serving in the Manitowoc parade, Camp Sinawa, and many other places. He also served as a boy scout leader as well as a softball coach.

Survivors include his wife: Barbara Windus; four children: son: Ron (Bobbie) Windus of Lena and their two children: Riley and Reece; daughter: Jacque (Nick) Smith of Newton and their two children: Miranda and Ayden, son: Chuck (Tamara) Windus II of Newton and their children: Autumn and baby Windus; and daughter: Heather (Joe) Moore of Manitowoc and their children: Quinn and Peyton. He is further survived by two brothers and one sister: Paul (Evie) Windus, Gale Windus, and Diana Detrie; mother-in-law: Emily Junk; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ed (Mary) Junk, Tony (Sue) Junk, Richard (Jody) Junk, Beverly Junk, Pauline (Jay) Bengston, Annette (Mike) Backhaus, Karen (Paul) Litz, Patty (Tom) Bekkers, and Kay Lynn (Kevin) Gilbertson; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents: Helen and Erwin Windus; one brother: Larry Windus; sister-in-law: Jenny Windus; brother-in-law: Ken Detrie, father-in-law: Ronald Junk; one niece: Alicia Junk; and three nephews: Jeff Windus, Brian Bengston and Joseph Litz.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 8100 Brunner Road, Newton, WI. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. David Beaudry. Chuck will be laid to rest at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Cemetery, Newton, Following the Mass. Military honors will be accorded by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 731 of Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton.
