Leonard Ivan Champlain Sr., age 88, of Jefferson City, died Monday, December 19, 2005, at Heisinger Home.

He was born in Meta on October 7, 1917, a son of William H. and Eva L. (Barnhart) Champlain.

On August 8, 1942, in St. Louis, he was married to Catherine Shephard Younger, who preceded him in death on January 27, 2001.

He lived in St. Louis County for 33 years returning to the Meta community in 1975. He worked at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for 22 years.

He was a member of the Iberia Masonic Lodge #410 AF and AM and attended Meta Christian Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved hunting.

Survivors include: one son, Leonard I. Champlain Jr., and wife Pamela of Holts Summit; one brother, Harold Champlain of Villa Ridge; three grandchildren, Raymond York, Tabetha York, and Dawn Stilson; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

His parents and 12 brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.


Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, at Rekus Funeral Home in Meta. Rev. Manuel Seaton will officiate. Interment will be in Southside Cemetery near Meta.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Shriner's Hospital in St. Louis.
