Fern Pearl Child Anderson Kearl

ROY – Fern Kearl almost made it to her 96th birthday. She died May 28, 2022, peacefully, in the home she loved so much, surrounded by family. She was born June 15, 1926, in Roy, Utah, the daughter of Abiah Wadsworth Child and Emma Clydie Olmstead.

She married Eugene Ely Anderson, April 16, 1947. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple. Gene passed away May 20, 1952, leaving Fern widowed with two daughters ages 1 and 3.

Fern never planned on marrying again, but after a very spiritual courtship she married Udell Fielding Kearl on June 18, 1954, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They added five children to the clan- two boys and three more girls. Udy passed away October 27, 2009.

Fern was loved and admired by everyone who had the pleasure of being warmly welcomed into her circle of family and friendship. She lived a life of service to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including, but not limited to: Road Show Director, Relief Society President, Patriarchal Blessing Transcription Specialist for 24 years, and 10 years as an Ordinance Worker in the Ogden Utah LDS Temple. Fern's greatest calling was that of Mother in which her true gifts shown in the art of homemaking. She sewed most of her children's clothing when they were younger and elaborate prom dresses and trousseau quilts as her 5 daughters started dating, provided dinner around the table every night without fail and full hot breakfasts before school, was a tireless genealogist, a nurse, a daunting PTA rep, a food storage whiz, a relay race enthusiast, a water fighting good sport as long as you didn't get her hair wet, a bonfire cook, a spotless camper cleaner (Sanitary Sam), a late night watcher for her brood to return home safe and happy each night, a wedding planner and eventually the world's best grandmother. Nothing pleased her more than just sitting back and watching her posterity gab, tease and goof off generally. She had a contagious laugh, a huge smile and loved unconditionally!

Early in life she traveled from ward to ward singing with The Pink Ladies. Later in life, at age 86, she became a painter. Her treasure trunk is full of certificates and honors that show she was a lover of learning and self-improvement.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, 8 siblings and 7 of their spouses, 5 siblings-in-law and their spouses, her parents and 3 grandsons, David and Derrick Mackey (Linda) and Raymond Lovell (Karen).

Interment, Roy City Cemetery.
