Sioux Falls- Shirley Ione Thoreson, 90, died Friday, May 6, 2022 at Ava's House by Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. The family will be present to greet friends for visitation one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
Shirley Ione Froseth was born on November 28, 1931 in Garretson, SD to Gustav and Gladys (Anderson) Froseth. She was raised on a farm near Garretson and graduated from Garretson High School. Following high school, Shirley made her home in Sioux Falls, SD.
Shirley was united in marriage with Harlan Bernell Thoreson on July 5, 1953 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. From this union Shirley and Harlan were blessed with five children, Bruce, Brian, Brad, Brenda and Brett. Shirley and her family became members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church when their children were young. Harlan passed away on October 21, 2014.
Shirley enjoyed camping, traveling, wintering in the south, bowling, playing countless games of scrabble, cheering on the Minnesota Twins and watching Wheel of Fortune. The one thing Shirley loved more than anything else was spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed.
