"A man of many hats"

Our beloved, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Clark Nelson Woodbury, age 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep of natural causes.

He was born March 31, 1929, in St George, UT, a son of Lawrence and Ina Hall Woodbury. He played basketball for Dixie High School and was known as "Cotton" by all his friends because of his striking blond hair. He married Bertha Brierley on September 8, 1950 and they were sealed in the St George Temple on May 22, 1951. Two months after their wedding Clark was drafted into the Korean War and served in the Army as a driver in the Tank Battalion. When he received his honorable release in August 1952, he was never so happy to return home to his sweetheart bride. Clark led an exciting life, working as a lumberjack, sheep shearer, and even exploring for uranium in his earlier years.

He loved fishing, hunting, hiking and all sports. Many a man has suffered the loss of a racquetball game when competing against Clark.

He enjoyed entertaining young and old alike with his magic trick shows which he performed at ward parties and under the carport in the summers at his home. He was called on to be the MC everywhere he lived with his mastery of jokes and poetry, especially cowboy poetry. He loved fishing, hunting, hiking and all sports. Besides his family, his greatest legacy was his love and expertise of hiking and guiding friends down John Wesley Powell's "Nankoweap Trail ", to the bottom of north rim of the Grand Canyon. He hiked this grueling and dangerous, 14 mile round trip, 19 times over a 25 year period. He was a young 72- year old when he made his final decent down this legendary trail.

Clark owned Sun Painters Inc, a home painting company for over 50 years. He pleased many customers with his painting skills and as an added bonus delighted them with his never ending jokes and poems.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities; however, his greatest love was serving with the youth and being a Scout Master. He was a friend to all and never missed a moment to make others feel important and loved by him. Even though he lived his last years legally blind, deaf and crippled he rarely complained and endured his trials amazingly till the end. He truly was a tough ole cowboy from the greatest generation.

We would like to thank all the staff, aides and medical staff at Legacy House and Hospice for their love, compassion and service.

Clark is survived by his wife Bertha; their children, Bradley (Lecia), Debra Falcone, Jeannine Urton (Bob) and Delores Harper(Keith); 17 grandchildren; 31 great grand-children; brother, Orin Nelson Woodbury of Salt Lake, sister-in-laws Luen Flamer of West Jordan and Dora Jean Woodbury of St George. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edward L Woodbury, Alma Woodbury, Hall Loraine Woodbury, Marvin H Woodbury and sister Delores Woodbury.

Viewing to be held Monday, July 12, 2021, 6 - 7:30 p.m., and Tuesday, July 13, 2021, 12-1:00pm, prior to services at Jenkins Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan, UT.
