Former Gary resident, Harold George Brevik, age 81, died March 24, 1999. Memorial services for Harold Brevik of Derby, KS, were conducted at 1 pm, Saturday, March 27, 1999, at the Smith Mortuary in Derby, KS.
Harold was born September 15, 1917, on a farm near Gary, SD and graduated from Gary High School in 1935. He farmed until 1951 when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. On October 5, 1953, he married Alice Green of Wigan, England. To this union one daughter and one son were born. Following their marriage they moved to California, Louisiana, England, Georgia, New Jersey, South Dakota and finally Kansas, where they have resided since 1970.
Harold received an honorable discharge in 1971, after serving 20 years. He then was employed by the Derby School District as a maintenance worker, where he retired in 1994. He received the "I Make a Difference Award" from the school district for his hard work and helpfulness. He enjoyed working, reading and music.
Harold is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Cloie Brevik, Salina, KS; son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie Brevik, Derby, KS; one granddaughter, Cindy Shugart; two grandsons, Tyler and Matthew Brevik; one sister and husband, Bob and Nina Bartels, Papillion, NE; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Cloie Brevik, two sisters, Bertha Barlow and Ruth Kriens; and three brothers, Claire, Arnold, and Len.
A graveside service for Harold G. Brevik will be conducted Saturday, May 29 at 11 am, at the Grandview Cemetery, Gary, SD.
