My Great - Aunt
Died in the Lara Bushfires on the 8th January 1969.
Daughter of Rita (Mullins) and Jack Kelly (both dec)
Married Stanley Chesterfield 8th April 1954.
Mother of Deborah (Chesterfield) Garrott, Lousie , Twins Adrian and Roger Chesterfield.
Joan was travelling down to the Geelong Beach from Melbourne with her daughter Louise and twin sons Adrian and Roger and got caught in the Lara Bush Fires. Authorites gave people the OK to travel that way but they got it wrong. As a result 18 people lost their Lives that day. Joan's eldest daughter was travelling ahead in another car with other people and had stopped further to wonder where her family was, not knowing about the fire.
Roger was found along side hes mother not far from the car. Louise was taken to hospital and died 3 days later and Adrian was taken to hospital and died 5 days after that tragic day.
