Margaret Andrews Phipps, 87, of Galax, VA, passed away Friday, January 11, 2008 at her home. She was born in Hampton, VA on November 29, 1920 to Harris and Margaret Hoskins Andrews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Rex Phipps and her beloved daughter, Louisa Phipps Chrisley. She is survived by her daughter, Leesa Phipps of Galax; grandchildren, Randee Michelle Chrisley of Radford, and Brett Hunter Chrisley of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Jayla Michelle Kimbrough of Radford, and Norah Voss Chrisley of Charlotte, NC; one niece, Cora Andrews Norris of Anderson, SC. Margaret graduated from Radford University with her BS and Masters Degree. She was a born teacher, her heart drew her to children touching their lives with love and inspiring them to reach their full potential. She was a member of Galax Presbyterian Church, Galax Education Association, Virginia Education Association and National Education Association. She was an avid Va. Tech Hokie Fan and very proud to be one of the pillars of the Hokie Nation. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 14, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Galax Presbyterian Church with Dr. Tom Whartenby officiating. Burial will follow in Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will greet friends Sunday evening from five until six at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home and Monday afternoon from one until two at the Galax Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Galax Foundation for Excellence in Education. There are women who make things better ...simply by showing up. There are women who make things happen. There are women who make their way. There are women who make a difference. And women who make us smile. There are women of wit and wisdom who through strength and courage make it through. There are women who change the world every day.. women like Margaret.
