EDWARDSBURG - Douglas Theodore LaCosse, 77 years old, of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest on May 15, 2015 as the result of being a pedestrian on a morning walk, was struck by a motorist, and passed from injuries at the scene. Doug was born Feb. 24, 1938 in L"Anse, MI, the son of Anthony Edward and Hilja (Marttila) LaCosse. Doug grew up in Northern Michigan and graduated from high school in Clinton, MI. He entered the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961 and was a commissaryman third class, having served over two years at sea duty. He worked for a while as a lumber-jack in the Upper Peninsula before coming here in 1966. Doug joined the Miles Lab Company (Bayer Corporation) of Elkhart and retired in 1999 after 34 years of service as an intermediate Process Operator in Pharmaceuticals. He loved to exercise and enjoyed his daily walks. Doug was married on June 26, 1965 in Munising, MI, to Kathryn M. Merrill, and she survives with their children, Karen (Bradley) Ward of Edwardsburg, MI and Steven (Kathy) LaCosse of Stover, MO, as well as two grandchildren, Allison Ward and Angel Ward. Also surviving is his sister, Geraldine (Ronald) St. Andre of Ishpeming, MI and his brother, Albert James LaCosse of Zephyr Hills, FL. Family who have passed are his parents, his sisters, Helen and Mary and his brother, Joseph 'Buddy' LaCosse. Cremation will take place. A Memorial Service of Remembrance will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 305 West State St., Cassopolis, with Rev. Paul Doellinger, Pastor of the church, officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, until the time of the service. After the service, all will leave the church for the United States Navy Honor Guard that will play Taps and fold the American Flag. Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg, MI.
