Nelson

Graveside services for Loree Boswell Nelson, 90, of Tanglewood, formerly of Rockdale, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2004, in Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood with Dr. Gregory Nichols of First Christian Church in Lexington officiating.

Mrs. Nelson died Tuesday, March 2, at her home.

She was born Jan. 23, 1914, in San Gabriel to Ulysses Perkins and Amanda Ethel (Locklin) Boswell. Mrs. Nelson was a graduate of Lexington High. She was the valedictorian of the Class of 1930 and was the last survivor.

She married Oren Aubrey Irby in 1933 and Loy Wesley Nelson on Oct. 19, 1966.

Mrs. Nelson was an accountant with Alcoa for over 20 years. She was the first woman hired at Alcoa's Rockdale Operations.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Rockdale and a member of Rockdale VFW Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Loy Nelson, on May 21, 1991; her former husband, Oren Aubrey Irby, in 1972; an infant brother, James Boswell; and a brother, Locklin Boswell, in 1978.

Survivors are a son, Douglas Irby and wife Geneva of Tanglewood; two grandchildren, Rex Kevin Irby and wife Jennifer of Chicago, IL, and Vicki Lynn Thweatt and husband Rock of Austin; and seven great-grandchildren, Steven Thweatt, Rachel Thweatt, Lauren, Christopher, Alyssa, Matthew and Taylor Irby.

Honorary pallbearers were Walter "Bozo" Urban, Ollie Young, Rock Thweatt, Charles Cox, Tom Martin, Tom Bennett, Sonny Brueckner and Jim Tuttle.
