The Wellington Leader July 9, 1964

Mrs. Jameson, Early Area Settler, Dies

Mrs. Mattie A. Jameson, whose family pioneered in this area, and who had lived at Dodson about 60 years, died in the Hollis Hospital Sunday, July 5, at 12:50 a.m. She had been confined to her bed since breaking her hip March 9. Mrs. Jameson was 86 years of age.

A church leader wherever she lived, Mrs. Jameson was one of the charter members of the Dodson Church of Christ. This year, more than 50 years after its organization, the congregation completed its new building, in which Mrs. Jameson was also vitally interested, and she attended the first services held in it. The first Church of Christ in Wellington also was organized in her home, during the time she and her family lived here, between 1906 and 1909.

Mrs. Jameson was born Mattie Abbott, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Abbott, in St. Jo, Feb. 7, 1878, and she was still young when the family moved to the Madge community. She was married to Charley Hunt, whose family had settled north of Dodson, and the couple moved to Idaho. Mr. Hunt died shortly after they returned to Dodson and was buried on the family farm. She was married to R. S. Jameson about 1901, and except for the few years in Wellington, Dodson was her home since then.

The quality of her life that has stood out clearest with those who knew her, especially in earlier years, was her care for the sick of the community. Many remember how she took her lantern and walked across the pastures at night to care for someone who was ill. She also was interested in the schools of her community and saw to it that her own children received the educational opportunities they wanted.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jameson were conducted at the Dodson Church of Christ Monday at 2 p.m. Officiating was Min. Frank Duckworth of Muleshoe, a grandson-in-law. Pallbearers were grandsons: Duggie Jameson, Leland Bonneau, Edwin Bonneau, Edel Bonneau, Dale Hunt, and Kenneth Hunt. Burial was in the Dodson cemetery by the side of he husband, who died Dec. 12 1936.

Surviving Mrs. Jameson are two sons and two daughters Mrs. Pete O'Brien of the Arlie community, Mrs. Van Bonneau, Gilbert Hunt and R. T. Jameson of Dodson. There are 14 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. One sister also survives, Mrs. George Spurlin of Vinson.
