He served as a Medical Group Manager for 35+ years with Surgical Associates, Allied Physicians, and Indiana Ohio Heart, and then as an independent consultant. He was a founding contributor of the Medical Manager's Association, Inc. of Fort Wayne which brought together local leaders of the medical community to improve the business conditions and better serve the patients of their respective organizations. Prior to his work in the medical field, Jerry worked at MULIC. Jerry was a faithful servant and foundation of support for his family and community. Dancing and traveling with his wife Lou brought him great joy and he valued entertaining friends and family. He had a quick wit, gave wise counsel, and brought groups together for a greater purpose. In 2004 he was honored with the Jefferson Award for Excellence in Volunteerism. Jerry was a Founding Board Member of The Dr. Bill Lewis Center for Children - Indiana Child Advocacy Centers; a Board Member and Officer of SCAN; a Board Member and Officer of the Neighborhood Health Clinic; served on the Allen County Board of Health; and contributed 14 years as a Board Member and Officer of the Allen County Public Library. At the ACPL, he was a key leader in the expansion and updating of the main downtown library and 13 branches county-wide. His volunteerism focused on building a strong community by helping to create an even playing field for all people, the restoration of families, community health and well-being, and softening the blow for those suffering from injustice. Jerry received a Bachelor's degree in Business Education and Administration from Ball State University and served as Class President. He graduated from North Side High School and regularly entertained as Master of Ceremonies for his graduating-class reunions. Jerry served his country as a member of the US Army.
Jerry is survived by his twin brother Glenn Thomas "Tom" (Michel Leus) Hoemig, daughters Karen (FeyFey) Moussou and Lynn (Marty) Doak, and Grandchildren: Morgan (Jon) Fennig, Rachel (Rhys) Jones, Ellen Moussou, and Gabriel Moussou.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Louise "Lou" Hoemig and his parents Glenn and Melva Hoemig.
A Celebration of Life service is Friday, April 22 at 4:00 at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home, Covington Knolls. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, April 21, and from 2 to 4 pm, just prior to the service. The family will hold a private burial at a later date. Arrangements by D.O. McComb & Sons Coventry Funeral Home.
