MARCELINO "CHELO" R. MARTINEZ
PHARR - Marcelino "Chelo" R. Martinez, 88, died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in McAllen.
Mr. Martinez, born in and a lifelong resident of San Juan, had lived in Pharr since 2002 and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. He served as a communion minister at National Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle and also at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish. Mr. Martinez was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Jose R. Martinez.
Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Guadalupe "Lupita" Martinez of Pharr; three daughters, Lupe De Leon of Dallas, Texas, Juanita Schwartau of Houston, Texas, Blanca (Paulino) Ramirez of Pharr; a son, Ruben (Linda) Martinez, PHD of Justin, Texas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Josefina Alvarado of San Juan, Juanita Hernandez of San Antonio, Texas and Alicia Cortez of Alamo.
A rosary was held Friday, May 21, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 2 pm, today, May 22, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 101 of Pharr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
