After Walter's death, Mary married her widow brother-in-law Joseph Taylor Martin in late 1920; they had a son, Joseph Jr. and a daughter, Ida who died young. Joseph's first wife was Walter's sister Ara Patterson; they had 3 daughters, Myrtle Bell, Willie Jo, Ollie Mae.
Just four years after her second marriage, Mary (wife, mother, stepmother/aunt) died of tuberculosis at the age of 35.
