Henshaw-Thomas Family Bible lists date of birth as Oct. 27th, 1823 - tombstone was read in 1987 as "73yrs, 9mo., 18dys??".

Mahlon Hockett Newlin married Mary Elizabeth Maxwell on Jan 15, 1846 in Orange County, Indiana. Children: John Maxwell Newlin, Martha Ellen Newlin, Thomas Elwood Newlin, Joseph Hoag Newlin, Elmira Ann Newlin Parker, Delphina Jane Newlin Pollock, and Julia Florence Newlin Nicholson, who married William & died in Chicago.

From 1849, the Mahlon Hockett Family lived in New London, Howard, Indiana. They moved to Kansas about 1867-68 and in 1870 they were teaching in a Quaker Indian School located in Council Grove, Morris, Kansas.

As a Quaker, Mahlon Hocket Newlin was appointed an Indian Agent.
