Betty Jane (Mennen) Pickering, 99, was born on April 5, 1923 to Floyd and Bonnie (Rector) Mennen. With the exception of a brief sojourn after retirement to Mountain Home, AR, she lived most of her life in and around Lafayette, IN. Betty married William Pickering in 1945 at Grace United Methodist Church in Lafayette, IN and they had five children together. She graduated from Klondike High School, where she and Bill met. She was a graduate of Lafayette Home Hospital School of Nursing. Being a wife, mother, and nurse were the benchmarks of her life.

Betty was a collector of miniatures and acquired an extensive collection of thimbles. A lover of reading, she could make short work of a crossword puzzle. She was a fan of (among other things) the Chicago Cubs and of Elvis.

Betty died on Monday, June 13, 2022 in the healthcare facility at Wesley Manor in Frankfort, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Pickering; and her son, Ronald Pickering.

Betty is survived by four children; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Betty will be on Monday, June 27, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Soller Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette, IN. A private family graveside service will be held at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, IN.
