Gaylen Dannelly, 73, of Genoa, Nebraska, died Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 19 at 10:30 AM, at the Genoa United Methodist Church with Pastor Connie Kramer officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time, all at the church.

Gaylen G. Dannelly was born on October 19, 1948, in St. Edward, Nebraska to Glenn & Lucille (Condreay) Dannelly.

He grew up in the St. Edward area, attending Platte County District #27 school to the eighth grade and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1966. During high school, he was involved in football, FFA, 4-H, and numerous school organizations.

Gaylen entered the United States Marine Corps in 1967, serving on active duty during the Vietnam War until transitioning to the Marine Reserves in 1970.

On November 26, 1976, Gaylen was united in marriage to Marilyn Hayes at the Methodist Church in St. Edward.

Gaylen was a man of many interests and talents. He worked in construction, did plumbing, had an underground sprinkler company, worked retail sales, and was a real estate agent towards the end of his career.

Gaylen was in many ways a born and bred Nebraska product. He loved his small towns of St. Edward and Genoa. He knew every back road and every person in his own bit of the world. He loved country music, country life, fishing, football, horses, rodeos, target shooting, raising a cold one, spending time with his friends and family and of course—hunting. It was a passion he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Gaylen was also a collector. He had extensive collections of knives, Old West trading cards from the '30s, and guns. But his most prized collection was his collection of friends. He was personable, easy to talk to, and would do anything he could to help another. Teasing, light hearted joking, serious and deep conversations, a shoulder to cry on, small talk—he enjoyed it all. Our Nebraska man will be missed by so many, as he loved so many of you. His family thanks you for being a part of his short time here on earth.
