HOMER AUSTIN LEWIS was the son of DAVID DIXON LEWIS and MARY ANN AUSTIN.

His only sibling was EDGAR WEBSTER LEWIS born in 1870.

HOMER'S father, DAVID LEWIS, lived apart from the family after the untimely death of his wife, MARY ANN AUSTIN LEWIS, not long after the birth of EDGAR. His sons, HOMER and EDGAR, were raised in the home of their maternal grandparents, MARY ANN WEBSTER AUSTIN and PHILEMON AUSTIN on a farm in the Marengo area of Calhoun Co, MI.

DAVID DIXON LEWIS boarded out as a farm hand on neighboring farms in Calhoun County, MI. HOMER and EDGAR, along with their wives, children and their father, migrated west to Oregon some time between 1916 and 1920.

HOMER married his neighbor CATHERINE MARY "KITTY" REDDY, an Irish immigrant 10 years his junior who grew up with her widowed mother in the home of her maternal aunt and uncle, JAMES PATTON and MARY (LARKIN) PATTON, also of Calhoun Co MI.

HOMER and KITTY bought a house in the Kenton District of Portland, Multnomah Co., OR. This neighborhood was built to serve employees of the cattle business at the Portland stockyards, an industry that was booming in the post-WW I era. With only a fourth grade education it may have been partly the lure of jobs that drew this family to Portland.

HOMER and KITTY also bought a cabin in DeLake (Devi's Lake), Lincoln Co., OR in what is now known as Lincoln City. There they entertained their children and grandchildren for many summers.

Their known children:

1) Mary Marna LEWIS (1895-1965).

2) James Patton "Jim" Lewis (1900-1957).

HOMER outlived KITTY by 11 years and after her death he moved in with his son JAMES, daughter-in-law GRACE, and their children in Battle Ground, Clark Co, WA. He knew all of his grandchildren and lived long enough to know two of his great-grandchildren.
