H. L. Eiland served the U.S. as the Baker, Florida postmaster for 28 years. He passed away at his home following a brief illness. He was 65 years old and had lived here for 35 years, coming to Baker, Florida from Alabama. Mr. Eiland was recently appointed on a lifetime basis. He was a Mason and a member of the W.O.W. lodge and the Baptist church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maude Eiland; four daughters. Mrs. C. A. McCart and Miss Agnes Eiland of Baker; Mrs. L. G. Foster of Pensacola, Florida and Mrs. E. P. Rodwell, Jr. of Florala, Alabama; seven sons, A. C. and Joseph Eiland, of Baker; H. A. and O. C. Eiland of Pensacola; W. O. Eiland of Crestview and Wilton Eiland of Panama City; a sister. Mrs. L. W. Beck of Andalusia. Alabama; two brothers, W. W. Eiland of Andalusia and C. C. Eiland of Luverne, Alabama and a number of grandchildren.
