W. F. French Succumbs at Age of 78
William Franklin French, 78, a resident of Shreveport for 35 years, died in his home at 1901 Centenary at 4:30 a.m. Friday of a stroke. Final rites will be held in London, KY, Sunday.
Mr. French is survived by his widow, Dr. Katherine French, former head of the English department at Centenary College, and one daughter, Mrs. C. G. Tolbert, both of Shreveport.
Mr. French was born March 12, 1875 in Madison County, KY, and came to Shreveport in 1918 as head of the Bour-Davis Co., makers of automobiles. He later dealt in the sale of lands and leases. A member of the First Methodist Church, he served for many years on the board of stewards. He was a retired member of the Shrine and Scottish Rite Masonic fraternities. Mr. French attended school at Washington and Lee University and Kentucky Central College.
