CALDWELL -- Services for Alfred E. Brown, 101, of Caldwell, who died Tuesday, will be conducted at the Peckham-Dakan-Dakan Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday. Elder Ralph Martin will officiate, and interment will be at Canyon Hill.
Mr. Brown, the oldest recipient of Social Security benefits In Idaho and second oldest In the nation, was born Aug. 16, 1859, in Shelley County, Mo. He came west in 1882 and lived In Montana for about five years. He then moved to Montesanto, Wash., and drove a stagecoach between there and Olympia, Wash.
In 1889, Mr. Brown came to Idaho and was a painting contractor for a time. He later homesteaded south of Boise. He was married Jan. 30, 1896, in Boise to Nellie Smith, and the couple moved to Elmore County in 1899 and were in the cattle raising business. They moved to Caldwell in August 1929, and he since had lived there. Mrs. Brown died March 7, 1956, in Caldwell. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Milton F. Brown of Guam, Floyd Brown of Juliaetta in Latah County, and Larry Brown of Walla Walla, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Hazel Daley of Seattle; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Henry Daugherty of Boise, and 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
