Bliss was born May 12, 1793 in Vermont. He moved to Illinois with his family in 1837 from the state of New York. He was a machinist and farmer in the Peoria and Stark County area. Zenas Bliss was the father of 12 children and served our country as a member of the militia in Abraham Dix's Company. Local descendants in Princeville include: Eloise Bliss Graves, a great-niece and John Bliss, a great-great-nephew.
